as I struggle to see
and am blinded by dawn
to the shade of this tree
I’m instinctively drawn

as I struggle to stand
and find myself pinned
to your strong trunk my hand
braces oncoming wind

as I struggle to speak
and am silenced in tears
it is your leaves I seek
now to bury my fears

as I struggle to shake
the nightmares of my past
on your wide roots I stake
my sweet dreams so they last

as I struggle to sleep
in the still of the night
to your branches I creep
lullibied in moonlight

as I struggle to stay
somehow true to my soul
to your sweet sap I sway
now to drink myself whole

as I struggle to see
what I saw all along
in the shade of this tree
I see where I belong
