to leave the mountain for the sea
one must endure the misery
and traverse the depths of the night
through the valley without a light

to leave the ocean for the land
one must completely understand
that the longing will not subside
to return again with each tide

but to leave neither out of reach
by treading sand upon the beach
will only make the heart ache worse
for limbo is a horrid curse

and so I sit upon the sand
awaiting life’s cold reprimand
for I know not where I should be
with heart on land and soul at sea
